A total of 12 million yuan ($1.78 million) of cash will be granted to 12 international scientists for their
groundbreaking academic contributions to the fields of quantum computation and quantum com
munications, according to a press release by the newly founded Micius Quantum Foundation on Friday.
With a combined donation of 100 million yuan from Chinese entrepreneurs, the foundation based in Hefei, East China’s Anhu
i province, will give each of the six annual laureates one million yuan. The foundation, a non-profit organization, ai
ms to promote development of quantum information science and technology.
The Micius Quantum Prize’s 2018 and 2019 laureates were announ
ced at the same time, as selection of first-year nominees took longer than expected, said Luo
Yi, president of the foundation and a scientist from the University of Science and Technology of China, based in Hefei.
According to Chilean Ambassador Luis Schmidt, the two countries on Wednesday secured a deal to open the Chinese market to Chilean pears.
He said he is expecting the first pear exports to China to take place soon.

ted countries and contributing to recovery of the global economy, senior Chinese officials said on Monday.
China’s direct investment in BRI-related countries grew by 5.2 percent a
nnually on average to surpass $90 billion between 2013 and 2018, Song Lihong, an officia
l in the Ministry of Commerce’s Comprehensive Department, said at a news conference.
Song said that in the same period, China had received a total of
$40 billion in inbound investment from BRI countries as two-way investment deepened.
Within the five years, the value of the projects completed
by Chinese companies in BRI economies amounted to $400 billion, Song said.
The value of trade in goods between China and BRI-related economies exceeded $6 trillion in the same period, an av
rage annual growth of 4 percent, higher than the overall growth of China’s foreign trade, he added.
